Pre Writing for project 3

Writing about my movie is becoming a little difficult. Trying to cut off alot of dead weight and focus on the thesis can be a bit frustrating at times. I just need to keep reading it out load and find out where this paper is trying to go. Mens studies has a lot there. To me its finding the right tuning. Once I find that i can really get into it. there is alot of areas where i can explore.

Camillia Pagilia "Woodstock"

I believe that when Pagilia reads the song WoodStock she has it right. She seems to believe that song is really about one thing. A reformation about sex and culture. The song can really change meaning just by using a different instrument. If you were using a piccolo it would seem soft and the meaning could be about peace. Though if you were to use a Bass Guitar the meaning could become more aggressive. Changing the whole essence of the song. Same goes with time and place and even differnt bands. This song is so diverse and elastic. This song was performed at a time when people felt more of a love connection with each other. There was a huge drug movement and hippie movement. Much stronger than it is today. This grew stronger with government reforms trying to control the way people lived. If performed today it could possibly lose some of its meaning.

Glutton Intolerance

Some of the instances where he switches from talking facts to more of a conversational way is talking about BMI and how this could be a very flawed way of how we measure obesity. He later gives examples of how black people usually have a lower amount of stomach fat than white people given the same BMI as that white person show that this way is very flawed.
In the first paragraph he talks about how obesity is causing american money but in the last paragraph he talks about how we should target poverty because he says fat people are usually poor because of all the discrimination they get but also the tendencies they have such as not possibly not completing college and having more of chance of depression.

Hitting Bottom: Why America Should Outlaw Spanking

The author looks at Reasons against spanking kids as a reasonable look but also says that there could be some other way to deal with a bad kid. She talks about what we like to think the reason parents spank their child and what the potential reality is about parents who spank their kids. She says that she doesnt want people to view this as another way government is sticking their hands in your privet life. I believe there would be no way of enforcing this law unless you ask the kid if your are being spanked. I think this is more of a general sway of the society. She is trying to change the openness we have on spanking and force us to think about other ways we could deal with a child specifically kids under 4 years old. I completely agree. Kids under 4 really don't have any way of knowing that they are doing wrong and simply raising for voice is effective enough.

Proposal for P.3

The proposal I want to do for my Project three is Mens studies on 007 Skyfall. I feel like there is a lot of material here to write about mens studies. James Bond I feel like he is a representation of a certain kind of man that cares about looking good, he is very emotionally sound and can fight and shoot his way through any situation. Putting on his suit is like putting on his powers. Though there is something a little different about James Bond in this film. There is a scene that represents this in a humorous way. James Bond gets captured by the main villain. (he does this voluntarily). While he is tied up to a chair the villain starts to get really close to him and starts to lightly touch him in a sexual manner. The villain says "there is a first time for everything" James Bond replies " what makes you think that this is my first time?". This little bit was very compelling for me showing me that even James bond has sort of a Gay past or at least hinted that he is not afraid of being open about little secrets that could portray him being something less than a man.

The Critical approach that interest me the most

Well I think that all critical approaches are all fairly interesting. They all have points that we can make about the society or the society of the film or book that you are doing your critical approach on and generally they would interest me all bout the same. Except mythical approach, I just hate myths...Anyways I guess if i really had to choose one though it would be objectification. I believe this one is the most insulting form of a critical approach and can reach over many genders and situation. Objectification can be quite subtle or it can be right in your face and it is the others responsibility to take it or to take action in the verbal bullet that is being shot at you.  Objectification forces the other person to think and respond.
